TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES – The United State Border Patrol reports agents rescued 17 migrants from the cab of a tractor-trailer, foiling a human smuggling attempt.
Agents assigned to the T or C Border Patrol station received information on the smuggling attempt from a concerned citizen and together with Homeland Security Investigations and New Mexico State Police initiated a traffic stop on the tractor-trailer on May 20 near Truth or Consequences in southern New Mexico.
Inside the tractor-trailer, agents heard shuffling feet, a news release stated, and found 17 migrants, in the country illegally, hidden inside the cabin sleeping area.
The U.S. citizen driver of the tractor-trailer was taken into U.S. Border Patrol custody. A news release did not state the driver s name.

The group, who are all from Cuba, were trying to make their way to shore just south of Waveland Beach, according to the Martin County Sheriff s Office. The boat capsized after taking on a large wave, throwing the six men and two pregnant females into the water.
