Alaska Airlines Unveils “Commitment Aircraft In Support Of United Negro College Fund
Created by Alaska Air’s Black employee resource group, the aircraft illustrates the belief in education as the great equalizer.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are now taking center stage from 30,000 feet.
As part of an ongoing relationship with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), which helps fund historically Black colleges and universities, Alaska Airlines’ “Our Commitment” aircraft took to the skies as a symbol of the airline’s promise to create a place where everyone sees themselves and belongs.
The aircraft, which made its inaugural flight from Seattle to Washington D.C., on Tuesday, April 27, was created by Alaska Air’s Black employee resource group to illustrate the airline’s belief in education as the great equalizer and as a critical component of creating sustainable racial equity. Our Commitment, took to the skies in late April. The aircraft, N492AS, disappeared off the radar in early April. But by the end of the month, the plane was reborn with a sparkling new paint job that celebrates the airline’s long-running partnership with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF).

Our Commitment celebrates the power of education
The plane features the faces of 14 kids who belong to Alaska Airlines employees. One of these is Arthur, the 8th-grade son of an Alaska Airlines training delivery specialist. Arthur attends Raisbeck Aviation High School in Washington and is keen on aeronautics and space exploration. He sounds smart and switched on, and Alaska Airlines wants to harness that.

Adams recalls spending much of her four-decade career at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, teaching in a building that did not have air conditioning. For too many teachers and students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), she says, that is still the case.
BD Announces Second Fiscal Quarter Results; Reaffirms Fiscal 2021 Guidance
- Second fiscal quarter revenues of $4.9 billion grew 15.4% on a reported basis. On a currency-neutral basis, revenues increased 12.2%.
- BD s COVID-19 testing sales were $480 million, including BD Veritor™ Plus System revenues of $290 million.
- BD s core growth led by strong growth in Medication Delivery Solutions (up 10.4%), Pharmaceutical Systems (up 15.4%), and Biosciences (up 16.3%) on a reported basis.
- Second fiscal quarter GAAP diluted earnings per share (EPS) increased 77.4% year-over-year to $0.94.
- Adjusted EPS increased 25.1% year-over-year to $3.19.
- BD is reaffirming its fiscal 2021 revenue growth and adjusted EPS guidance.
