Exit polls have forecast a tight contest between the incumbent Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress and the BJP in the crucial West Bengal assembly polls and put the ruling saffron combine ahead in Assam while projecting that the Left alliance will retain Kerala, a feat unseen in four decades.
For the Congress, the exit polls predicted that it may fall short in Assam and Kerala and lose in Puducherry to the opposition alliance of AINRC-BJP-AIADMK.
The only good news for the Congress was from Tamil Nadu, where the exit polls predicted that the DMK-led opposition alliance, of which it is a part, will trounce the AIADMK-BJP coalition.

New Delhi [India], May 2 (ANI): Counting of votes for high-stake assembly polls will take place on Sunday in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry in accordance with COVID-19 protocols. The Election Commission has made necessary arrangements for counting.
The counting is taking place amid an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. Counting will also take place for bypolls to four parliamentary and 13 assembly seats. The outcome of assembly polls is likely to have implications for politics at national level.

The ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress in Assam have all but junked the exit polls announced on Thursday evening since these were not “exact” polls with the former even releasing its own “exit” polls.
Assam state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass released the party’s two-page assessment, referred to party insiders as their own exit polls, complete with the seats the party was winning as well as the seats of its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL ) were winning.
The BJP’s “winnability” list shows the ruling party bagging 70 seats while the AGP eight and UPPL five, much more than the simple majority mark of 64 in a house of 126. It has also listed 21 seats as doubtful,which means it could go either way.
NEW DELHI: The exit poll results for Assam that went to the polls in three phases from March 27 to April 6 to elect 15th legislative assembly are out. Most exit polls have predicted the return of BJP-led government in Assam. A party needs 64 seats to be able to form government in the state.
