The BJP, with its allies, will form the next Assam government, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said today, promising to make the state violence-free , infiltrator-free , and flood-free . He based his forecast on the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) victory his party scored last December in alliance with the hardliner United People s Party Liberal (UPPL). Speaking in Kokrajhar today, he also reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi s emphasis on ensuring the political and cultural welfare of the state s indigenous communities.

Bodoland: Post their victory in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, the United People s Party Liberal (UPPL) has been gearing up to contest the upcoming Assam assembly polls.
BTC chief executive member (CEM) Pramod Boro told the media at the 52nd annual conference of Kokrajhar district unit of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), that the UPPL is ready to fight the approaching assembly elections.
Pramod-Boro led the UPPL in the recent BTC elections and formed the council in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Naba Sarania s Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), defeating Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People s Front (BPF).

GUWAHATI: BJP national president JP Nadda will reach Assam on Monday afternoon to start the party’s campaign for the ensuing assembly elections, which is likely to be held in April.
Nadda will hold a public rally ‘Vijay Sankalpa Samabesh’ at the Police Parade Ground in Silchar in Barak Valley, followed by a meeting with the top leadership of the state BJP, including its Assam president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Guwahati.
“He will review every aspect of the preparation of the party, including booth-level work, party’s stronghold, weakness, public sentiment, acceptance, strength in minority seats, Barak Valley and upper Assam,” Diplu Ranjan Sarma, general secretary of the state BJP, said.

“We have neither finalised any alliance with the AIUDF nor with the Left Front for the Assam polls,” Congress general secretary in charge of the State Jitendra Singh said after a party meeting in Hajo near Guwahati on Friday.
