Coast Guard: Incident at Port led to cargo container sinking in Cape Fear River Shipping container falls into Cape Fear River at the Port of Wilmington By WECT Staff | February 23, 2021 at 12:24 PM EST - Updated February 23 at 7:31 PM WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - An incident that led to three containers being knocked off a cargo ship at the Port of Wilmington Monday is being investigated by the United States Coast Guard (USCG). According to USCG Lt. John Packard, there were no injuries and no pollution due to the incident, however, one container was knocked into the Cape Fear River. Since the case is still under active investigation, Packard could not release details of how it happened. There are surveys being conducted to locate the sunken container, which, at this time, does not pose a threat to mariners.

Ten people including three children are rescued from an ice floe on Lake Erie after they ignored warnings not to venture out onto the water Coast Guard and fire department personnel rescued 10 people who were stranded on ice floes in Lake Erie in Cleveland The seven adults and three children became stranded on two separate ice floes near Edgewater Park Coast Guard said six people were rescued via an ice skiff while the fire department rescuers escorted the other four people off the ice  The two ice floes had been connected to land but had broken off Earlier in the day the National Weather Service issued warnings of dangerous ice conditions for the lake, urging people not to venture onto the ice
