Five candidates seek election to three Planning Board seats in Deerfield

DEERFIELD Monday’s election will involve one contested race that sees five candidates vying for three seats on the Planning Board.
Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Town Hall.
Planning Board
In the race for Planning Board, Mark Brennan Jr., Andrea Leibson and Kathleen Sylvester are challenging incumbents Max Antes Jr. and Rachel Blain.
Brennan who said he is passionate about protecting the rural character of Deerfield, while also “allowing for healthy economic development” currently serves on the Capital Improvements Planning Committee and works as the director of development operations at a software company.

LEWISTON – Max Crosby Ashburn, 83, a longtime resident of Lewiston, passed away on April 25, 2021 after a long illness.
Born on July 13, 1937 in Stony Point, N.C. to Russell and Bertha Ashburn, he was raised in the nearby town of Statesville, N.C. He left home at 17 to join the United States Marine Corps, training at Parris Island, Camp Lejeune and Camp Pendleton before being stationed in Japan and the Philippines. Upon being honorably discharged, his lifelong interest in drawing and painting led him to enroll in art school. He then found himself in Maine visiting a friend from the Marines, and decided to make it home.

AmpSurf, a local nonprofit that works with people with disabilities and their families by integrating adaptive surf therapy, is teaming up with the Women s Veterans Surf Project for a surf clinic.
Over the course of the weekend, the nine women who are either active military or veterans will use ocean therapy to work through various traumas, such as sexual assault, domestic violence, and combat-related trauma. Participants who spoke with KSBY say this program has been a beneficial and therapeutic way to address those traumas they experienced while in the military.

The Marine’s LAV has been a United States Marine Corps (USMC) workhorse since the early 1980s. With a 25mm chain gun, eight-wheel-drive, and a moderate amphibious capability, the Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) is a powerful reconnaissance tool. Since its introduction, the LAV has been steadily upgraded, incorporating armor protection upgrades as well as fuel economy and drive train improvements. Though the LAV certainly fills an amphibious armored reconnaissance capability niche for the Marine Corps, it is on the way out.
