Former Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) announced Monday he will not seek political office this election cycle, although he said he will stay involved in shaping the conservative message to help Republicans win the House and Senate, and he hinted that his decision is not necessarily permanent.
“I am announcing today that I will not be a candidate for any office in the next election cycle,” the Georgia Republican said in a statement, briefly highlighting some of his accomplishments in Congress, including the passage of the First Step Act:

Doug Collins, the former U.S. representative for Georgia s 9th Congressional District, won’t be appearing on any ballots in the next election cycle.
After months of speculation of his next political move, Collins announced on his personal Twitter account that he will “not be a candidate” for any state or local office in an upcoming election cycle.
The Biden era has offered a return to a more typical pattern one that features frequent spin and obfuscation or exaggeration. He devotes little time to social media and rarely faces reporters or speaks off the cuff.

Collins, the former representative from Georgia’s 27th Congressional District who had a failed 2020 Senate campaign, announced on Monday that he will not seek public office during this election cycle.
