Appalachian Conservation Corps is currently accepting applications for their summer youth day crew. These paid positions, which are open to local youth ages 15-18, will complete necessary conservation projects alongside trained leaders and project partners from the United States Forest Service. No previous outdoor experience is required.

The Little Norway Festival parade is scheduled to begin at 4 P.M. on May 14 in front of Eagle s Roost Park and end at the corner of Dolphin St. and 1st St.
After last year s festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 62nd annual Little Norway Festival is slated to begin May 13. I think everyone can t wait for it to happen, said Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Administrator Mindy Lopez. There s some excitement in the air.
Prior to the festival, free transportation across the Wrangell Narrows will be provided on May 8 for the City of Kupreanof Celebration Day from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. In their soft, whitish post-shedding form, the cicadas will wait for their new adult skin to harden and darken to their signature black.
