U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced legislation on Thursday to award congressional gold medals to the U.S. Capitol Police and Washington's police force for protecting the Capitol on Jan. 6 against an assault by rioters.
David K. Reeves of North Carolina made the threats over a period of several days ending on Feb. 2, in calls to the White House, the U.S. Capitol Police and a Secret Service agent, prosecutors said.
The impeachment trial of former President Donald J. Trump has heightened attention on the rioters’ attacks on officers, some of which resulted in serious damage.
