Police speak out against ‘white supremacy’ accusations in wake of Capitol riot Print this article
Law enforcement professionals say they re bewildered by and angry at portrayals of them as white supremacists in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
That view was neatly summarized in a Jan. 12 column by Brookings Institution fellow Rashawn Ray titled What the Capitol insurgency reveals about white supremacy and law enforcement. NEW BERLIN, WI The New Berlin Police Department is warning residents of a charity scam.
According to a Facebook post, a resident recently contacted police questioning a solicitation for a donation she received in the mail. The solicitation requested funding to support a national drive to provide lifesaving equipment to law enforcement, citing an emergency equipment shortage, and referenced the New Berlin, Wisconsin Area . The solicitation was personally addressed to the resident and originated from an organization identifying itself as the United States Deputy Sheriff s Association.
Subscribe Police conducted a quick internet search of the organization at www.charitynavigator.org, Charity Navigator confirmed the USDSA is a registered non-profit; however, it does award the USDSA a low rating.

During last Thursday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting, Clem Donze of the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the chamber’s Christmas decorating contest, while Mayor Carl Wyatt praised police chief Adam Bequette for obtaining a free dump truck and tractor for the city through a U.S. Defense Department surplus property program.
With the city struggling financially, Bequest’s grant-writing and knack of finding free items available for picking up from various programs has come in handy.
