Housing Authority of the County of Kern selected for MTW Demonstration Program

KERN COUNTY, Calif. â On May 7, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the selection of the Housing Authority of the County of Kern for the Moving to Work Demonstration Program.
One of only ten housing authorities nationwide and the only in California to be selected for MTW â Cohort #2, the Housing Authority will test rent reform strategies in its Low-Income Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs.
This program is meant to create incentives for assisted households to find employment and increase their earnings. Under the MTW program, randomly selected households will be enrolled in an alternative rent structure that increases the rent each year regardless of changes in income.

Blue Ridge, Ga. – The Beverly J. Searles Affordable Housing project is one step closer to coming to Blue Ridge. This comes after the Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend moving forward with rezoning of certain acreage to R3 high density residential.
The Beverly J. Searles Foundation, a Georgia based nonprofit that develops affordable housing, has a variety of requests pertaining to properties located along Mineral Springs Drive.
Philip Searles explains to the Planning Commission the plans for the affordable housing project.
Among these requests is for 1.2 acres of the property to be annexed into the City of Blue Ridge. Iowa Governor Signs Law Letting Landlords Refuse Section 8 Vouchers
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed into a law a bill that prohibits the state’s localities from requiring landlords to accept federal rental assistance vouchers.
Both chambers of the state’s legislature passed the bill in March. The law states that counties cannot enact laws that prohibit landlords from refusing to rent “to a person because of the person’s use of a federal housing choice voucher issued by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.”
The DesMoines Register reported that the governor signed the bill. The state legislature’s website did not say whether the bill was signed, and the governor’s website did not feature an update on the matter. The governor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for an update.
