2021 Kennedy Half Dollar Product Options Available May 11 From US Mint United States Mint will accept orders for rolls and bags of 2021 Kennedy Half Dollar coins beginning on May 11 at noon EDT. Available product options include the following: Both product options contain circulating finish coins that have never been placed in circulation. The coin rolls are wrapped in United States Mint paper coin wrap marked with a “P” or “D” for the mint of origin and “$10” for the face value. The bags are marked with a “P” and “D” for the mint of origin and “$100” for the face value of the contents.

Dr Maya Angelou First Black Honoree For the American Women Quarters Program %

Maya Angelou had a prominent literary career and is known for books such as I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” which was published in 1970 and received international acclaim and landed on the best-sellers list. “With more than 30 bestselling titles, Maya Angelou has written 36 books,”  her website says. According to NASA, Sally Ride was the first American woman to fly in space. Angelou died in 2014 and Ride passed away in 2012. According to a statement released by the Mint, each woman honored on a coin must be deceased. Additionally, up to five different reverse designs will be issued over the four-year period, beginning in 2022 and continuing through 2025.

The legendary wordsmith will have her image placed on a limited edition run of quarter coins beginning next year, essentially making her the first Black woman to appear on U.S. currency. The news of the appearance of both Angelou and NASA pioneer Dr. Sally Ride, the first woman to travel to space,  was first revealed in April. The women are the first to appear on the coins as part of the American Women Quarters program. They will be joined by other notable women figures in U.S. history, culminating in about 20 women to be featured. All of the figures have yet to be finalized and the U.S. Mint is asking folks to make suggestions for future features.
