Sonoma County Supervisors Establish Redistricting Commission

UpdatedThu, Feb 25, 2021 at 8:22 pm PT Reply February 24, 2021 Santa Rosa, CA – February 24, 2021 – The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today established a 15-member commission that will assist the Board in redrawing supervisorial district boundaries using new Census data. Residents of Sonoma County are encouraged to apply now to serve on the Sonoma County Advisory Redistricting Commission, which is expected to begin meeting in May. Subscribe We are inviting individuals who have a passion for civic engagement to apply to serve on this Commission, said Supervisor Lynda Hopkins, chair of the Board of Supervisors. With your help, we will create a citizen empowerment process to use the Census data to redraw the supervisorial district boundaries with a focus on equity.

Bay City’s NAACP branch celebrates over a century of existence in a predominantly white county Updated Feb 24, 2021; Facebook Share BAY CITY, MI - Bay County may be mostly white given its demographics, but the county is also home to a long standing civil rights group thanks to the area’s background in the lumber and shipbuilding industry. According to the United States Census Bureau, those of Black or African American heritage make up only 1.8% of Bay County’s population. Meanwhile, Bay County is 94.6% white. But Bay City National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) branch President Darold Newton explained that the organization has had an over 100-year-old presence in the area.
