A recent chase and arrest of a violent felon with a firearm highlights a trend of increasing gun violence, law enforcement officials said.
Anthony Sanders, 33, of LaPorte, faces charges of being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm and resisting law enforcement, according to LaPorte County Superior Court records.Â
On Tuesday evening, detectives from the LaPorte County Drug Task Force were doing surveillance in the 200 block of West 11th Street in Michigan City.Â
As Cpl. Kyle Shiparski and Det. James Fish were leaving the area, they saw Sanders walk out of a house in the 1000 block of Washington Street holding a firearm with a high-capacity magazine.Â

CLOVIS, N.M. (KFDA) - The Clovis Police Department arrested a man who is wanted for murder in Fort Worth, according to officials.
On Wednesday, Feb. 17, officials received information that a man who is wanted for murder was possibly in the area.
Two Agents from the United States Marshal Service responded to Clovis where they met with Detectives from the Special Operations Unit to begin an attempt to locate 32-year-old Tranell Pleasant who was wanted in Ft. Worth for murder.

On February 17, around 9:21 am, Marcus Okeef Wigley, 35, of Auburn was apprehended in the 1200 block of Amy Court in Auburn by members of the United States Marshal Service, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Police Division. Wigley was arrested on a charge of Capital Murder in connection with the death of Thomas Anthony Green, 18, of Auburn.
On September, 5 around 1:30 AM, Green was walking near the area of Foster Street and Clark Avenue in Auburn when he was assaulted and abducted by three black males. According to witnesses at the scene, the three males put Green in the back seat of a dark colored SUV and drove away. The witnesses were also able to identify three males to include Taharra Jaquay Brunson, 41, and Wigley, as taking part in the assault and kidnapping.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) Eight people were arrested after a joint agency sex offender investigation, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
MCSO on Thursday announced the arrests were the result of a sweep conducted by the department along with the United States Marshal Service.
“Marion County is safer today than it was yesterday thanks to the hard work of our Sheriff’s Deputies and our partners at the United States Marshal Service,” said Marion County Sheriff Kerry Forestal in a release sent to News 8. “Several dangerous sex offenders were removed from our streets, some of whom will likely remain in prison for several years.”
Eight Sex Offenders Arrested During Marion County Sweep
INDIANAPOLIS Eight men were arrested Wednesday by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshal Service during a sweep of fugitive sex offenders in the area.
Charges against the men range from the promotion of human trafficking to failure to register as a sex offender. Three of the men are considered sexually violent predators, according to MCSO.
