DoorDash, Grubhub sue San Francisco over permanent delivery fee cap

DoorDash, Grubhub sue San Francisco over permanent delivery fee cap By Elena Kadvany © Noah Berger/Special To The Chronicle Third party delivery giants DoorDash and Grubhub filed a lawsuit against San Francisco’s permanent commission fee cap on Friday, July 16. San Francisco’s permanent cap on third-party delivery fees, the first in the nation, is headed to court. DoorDash and Grubhub sued the City of San Francisco on Friday, firing back at the cap as an “irrational law, driven by naked animosity and ill-conceived economic protectionism.” San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors voted unanimously in June to permanently cap food delivery fee commissions charged by companies like DoorDash and Grubhub at 15% per order, “to protect independent restaurants from the exploitative and predatory practices of third-party food delivery apps that seek to extract wealth from our local economy,” Supervisor Aaron Peskin said at the time.

U S judge blocks new applicants to DACA program that protects undocumented Dreamers

Print WASHINGTON - A federal judge in Texas has largely halted an Obama administration initiative that grants work permits and reprieves from deportation to undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children - calling the program “unlawful” even as he allowed the more than 600,000 young people already in it to keep their protected status. U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen sided with Texas and other states in his ruling that President Barack Obama, a Democrat, overstepped his executive authority when he created the program. Hanen’s ruling called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, an “illegally implemented program” and said “the public interest of the nation is always served by the cessation of a program that was created in violation of law.”
