According to the “ 2018 DOJ Report on Senior Abuse and Financial Exploitation,” each year, an estimated three billion dollars is stolen from America’s seniors through various scams. Seniors often fall prey to imposters who claim to represent the IRS, Medicare or Medicaid, Social Security, or other legitimate businesses. Unfortunately, New Canaan is not immune to these scams. BPD Det. Barrette joins Secret Service NE Cyber Fraud Task Force The Barnstable Patriot Barnstable Police Det. Steven Barrette was federally deputized last week by U.S. Marshalls as a Task Force Officer for the United States Secret Service. Barrette joins Det. Sgt. Kevin Connolly as members of the Secret Service New England Cyber Fraud Task Force. The task force goals are to prevent, detect, and mitigate complex cyber-enabled financial crimes, arresting and convicting the most harmful perpetrators. As a member of the Secret Service New England Cyber Fraud Task Force, Barrette will receive training from some of the most experienced experts in the field of cyber-crime investigations and digital forensics in the country.
