KUALA LUMPUR: The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently issued a warning that the Delta variant which is more extreme as it is always mutating, can put the world in grave danger. The Delta variant which was discovered at the end of 2020 in India, is causing great concern in the world as the variant is aggressive and very infectious, contributing to the sharp rise in the Covid-19 cases in many countries, among them, the United Kingdom (UK) with more than 82,000 Delta variant infections, followed by India, United States, Germany, Canada, Portugal and Spain. The Delta variant is believed to be the source of the Covid-19 spike in Indonesia with 38,391 cases and 1,000 deaths on July 8 resulting in hospitals in Java to be filled to the brim with oxygen supply running low.

In sharing a screenshot of vaccination rates collated by Oxford University s Our World in Data , Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin on his Instagram wrote: Our vaccination rate has exceeded that of the UK when they were at their peak. The graph showed the rolling seven-day average of vaccine doses administered per 100 people in the total population (for vaccines that require multiple doses, each individual dose is counted).

Malaysia administered over 300,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses for fifth day in a row on July 9 Timothy Achariam © Provided by The Edge KUALA LUMPUR (July 10): A total of 337,478 doses of Covid-19 vaccines were given yesterday (July 9) across the country, the fifth day running with over 300,000 jabs administered.  Yesterday’s figure is however lower than the record-high daily doses of 376,909 administered on the previous day (July 8). A total of 213,396 individuals received their first dose of vaccine yesterday, while 124,082 were given their second dose, according to the latest tweets by the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).
