Zoka Zola is an architecture firm that is interested in high degrees of optimization that are achieved through a series of inventions similar to the inventions and optimizations leading to human flight from early gliders and flying machines to the airplane where characteristics, shape and use of each element is in a tight interdependent relationship with every other element. Where every element can be enjoyed on its own while at the same time is an essential part of the entire assembly. These inventions toward optimization contribute to the body of usable strategies in architecture, since each assembly is optimized for a very specific set of circumstances. While this high degree of “optimization” is not yet taken seriously as an architectural objective, they believe it will become an objective of future architects because of the growing awareness of our available resources and their uses, eventually making the terms “efficient” and “optimiz

Recent studies note the lack of growth in productivity and innovation in the construction fields. Quickly falling behind other sectors, this stagnation often leads to projects that are over-budget or over-schedule (or both). Part of this inefficiency could be combated by more effective coordination among the architects and various consultants during the design phase. Currently, an estimated 30% of project time is spent in coordination tasks within the team. A new Integrated Design tool aims to make collaboration more seamless, with the end result of more efficient communication and ultimately better buildings.

Ajman University of Science & Technology will hosting a four-day workshop by architects Mrs. Elke Delugan-Meissl and Mr. Roman Delugan of
Delugan Meissl Associated Architects – DMAA February 18-22. DMAA is known for their works involving urban development and interior and industrial design. Their most recent award was for the IF Product Design Award 2012 for their IYON LED Spotlight Series for Zumtobel. In addition, Delugan Meissl will hold a public lecture and open an exhibition for their work during the period of the workshop at the university. For more information and registration, please contact workshop coordinator Dr. Jihad Awad: dr jihadaa@yahoo.com; j.awad@ajman.ac.ae.
