» New Bellingham Facility Offers Resources to the Homeless

By Joe Teehan April 30, 2021 6:40 am clipart.com BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A facility offering a range of services to the local homeless population is coming to Bellingham. The state capital budget passed during the just-completed session provides $4 million for a collaborative effort called The Way Station. It will offer a variety of health care services including testing, vaccination and recuperative respite – a staffed around-the-clock place for people to recover from medical issues. It will cater to immediate personal needs like restrooms, showers and laundry; and give visitors access to services including pathways to transition out of homelessness. It’s a partnership between Unity Care Northwest, Opportunity Council, PeaceHealth, and the Whatcom County Health Department and will occupy the county property at 1500 North State Street.

» Community COVID vaccine clinic a success, organizers say

By Kathi O Shea March 16, 2021 6:15 am clipart.com BELLINGHAM, Wash.  The community COVID vaccine clinic at Bellingham Technical College was a success, according to organizers. Shanon Hardie with Unity Care Northwest says they administered doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to 388 people. She says they’re only being held back from expanding the clinic’s operation by limits to vaccine supply, which makes it hard to plan. She says they aren’t able to make appointments for the next clinic until the middle of the week when they’re sure of how much vaccine they’ll get. Featured Content
