(Photo| PTI) By PTI MUMBAI:  The Congress on Friday held protests across Maharashtra to seek action against Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami over his purported WhatsApp chats concerning the Balakot air strike, which it said amounted to breach of national security and violation of the Official Secrets Act.

TRP Case: Ex-BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta Discharged from Hospital, Bail Plea on Monday FOLLOW US ON: The Bombay High Court on Friday directed the Maharashtra government to submit by Monday the medical report of Partho Dasgupta, former Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) CEO arrested in the television rating points (TRP) rigging scam. A single bench of Justice PD Naik heard an urgent bail plea this evening, filed by Dasgupta s counsels, seeking interim bail for at least two weeks considering his poor health. Last week, Dasgupta was rushed to JJ Hospital from the Taloja prison, where he is lodged as an undertrial, after his blood sugar levels shot up and he fell unconscious. Dasgupta was discharged this evening, after which his lawyers moved HC seeking an urgent hearing.

Arnab Goswami (File photo) MUMBAI: Since its launch in May 2017, Arnab Goswami owned news channel Republic TV had gained ‘illegal’ access to an additional 22 million users of a Prasar Bharati-owned direct-to-home (DTH) service, DD FreeDish, without paying the government for it. Skirting an auction process which required channels to shell out Rs 8-12 crore yearly as carriage fees for a slot, Goswami’s English news channel was broadcast for over two years in an unencrypted form on a bandwidth accessible to all users of the FreeDish service. The issue loss to exchequer as well as unfair advantage enjoyed by Republic was brought to the notice of the information & broadcasting ministry (MIB) by competitors, and the complaint was forwarded to Prasar Bharati. However, the practice continued till September 2019, when a private DTH service, Dish TV, with which Republic had a deal for transmission began to encrypt the channel.
