Olean Police asking for assistance locating 14-year-old boy

Updated: 4:42 PM EDT July 19, 2021 OLEAN, N.Y. The Olean Police Department is asking for the public s help to locate a missing 14-year-old. Police say Jacob Carney ran away from his house on Indiana Avenue in the middle of the night Friday. Jacob was possibly seen Saturday in Olean around 11:30 a.m. According to police, he may have been heading west near McDonald s on West State Street. Jacob is said to be 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. It s unknown what he was wearing when he left his house.  Police say Jacob does not have a cell phone.

Olean Police to step up enforcement following complaints over fireworks

After receiving several complaints from residents, Olean Police say they will step up enforcement of illegal fireworks.  The department is reminding people that sparkling devices are the only legal fireworks in New York State, and they must be ground-based or handheld. Fireworks that go into the air and/or explode are not legal.   Under state law, illegal fireworks include consumer fireworks which are aerial in performance and are commonly referred to as sky rockets, bottle rockets, missile type rockets, helicopters, aerial spinners, roman candles, mines, shell devices, aerial shell kits, reloadables and audible ground devices which are commonly referred to as firecrackers and chasers.

Still missing: Search for Cole Geise continues in Olean

The Olean Police captain in charge of the investigation says police have exhausted all of their leads and will only continue the search if a credible tip comes in.
