OLMSTED COUNTY, Minn. - Many COVID-19 vaccine administrators are finding they have more doses of the innoculation that originally anticipated.
Pfizer vaccine vials are supposed to contain five doses, but vaccinators are finding they sometimes contain six. While some vaccine surplus in other parts of the country may be sitting in the ultra cold freezers of even going to waste, that s not the case in Olmsted County.
ABC 6 News spoke to Graham Briggs, the public health director for Olmsted County Public Health. He says he has confidence in kids returning to school these next few weeks, but he says, there's a risk.

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A deadly outbreak of COVID-19 at a long-term care facility in Olmsted County in December contributed to the deadliest month the county has experienced since the pandemic began.
Olmsted County Public Health hasn’t released the name of the facility but says the outbreak accounted for twelve of the deaths confirmed during December, nearly half the monthly total.
A total of 17 deaths were linked to outbreaks at long-term facilities in the county during December.
The agency’s latest numbers for the month of December show there were 26 confirmed deaths. That was nearly half the county’s overall 2020 total. The previous highest monthly death total was nine in April. The ages of those who died were in the 40s - 90s range.
