Briggs said that knowledge doesn’t give comfort for people who have lost loved ones.
“Forty-six is too many families that have to suffer locally,” he said.
While he said more local deaths are likely, he added that hospitalization numbers appear to be dropping, with approximately five new COVID-related admissions a day among Olmsted County residents. Forty-three residents were in the hospital on Tuesday.
“There’s a lag there, where it’s not quite as far down as our case rates,” he said, citing the recent decline in newly identified cases.
Briggs has noted in the past that increased hospitalizations and deaths typically follow two to three weeks after a spike in new cases.

ROCHESTER, Minn. - After hospitals were given the vaccine, pharmacies are now waiting for when they can administer them to their customers. Just like CVS, Walgreens, and other pharmacy chain s, Hunt s is preparing for the shipments of the vaccine. Were trying to be getting involved with everyone that has the vaccine coming to them and were hopefully included in their shipments so we do receive some, explained the retailer s owner Philip Hommerding.
Mayor Kim Norton said the city gets frequent complaints about violations that can’t always be confirmed.
“We get calls daily about people violating,” she said, suggesting council action should seek to deter businesses from claiming an advantage over others by violating state restrictions.
Olmsted County Public Health closed Dooley’s Pub and Legends Bar & Grill on separate occasions for concerns related to COVID-19 restrictions. Both businesses worked with public health staff to address concerns and reopened.
Staver was joined by council members Mark Bilderback and Patrick Keane in opposing the restriction for future funding, but they were outvoted 4-3.
It could be months before the vaccine is available for the general public.

Dear Answer Man: The COVID-19 vaccine started arriving in Rochester on Monday. Why is there a one-week wait between the arrival and the shots being given out? Why aren t the shots being given out sooner? - Impatient
Don t be so impatient. It s not like a new vaccine can be dropped off and people are suddenly rolling up their sleeves. One key step before mass vaccination can begin? Providers must be trained on protocols and procedures for administering the vaccine. For such a new vaccine, training is crucial to ensure the vaccine is administered appropriately and safely.
OLMSTED, CO., Minn. - Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine has officially arrived in Olmsted County and health officials are getting ready to administer the first vaccines locally.
Olmsted Medical Center received it’s first shipment shortly before 7AM on Monday. OMC is one of three medical centers to receive the Pfizer vaccine in Minnesota. North Memorial and Sanford Health are the other two.
There are around 975 doses of the vaccine being held at OMC and the first shots are expected to be given in one week.
