WORKERS are suffering an epidemic of mental ill-health due to the impact of Covid-19, a Unite survey reveals.
The union says the data shows there is a clear link between the increase in stress and the pandemic, and is calling on employers and regulators to help prevent the crisis continuing as lockdown eases.
The health and safety-focused survey of 1,400 Unite reps from all sectors of the economy finds that 83 per cent are dealing with an increase in members reporting mental-health-related problems.
Mental health issues also came top of workers’ concerns during a similar survey last year, but there has been an 18-point increase over the past 12 months.

Twelve-year-old Prayer Oloton David from Newton Heath suddenly stopped talking to adults at school when she went back to the classroom between lockdowns in 2020.
It was out of character, her mother Esther David-Osamwen said.
