Dozens line up at Oklahoma City church for COVID vaccine

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) People lined up outside a predominantly Black northeast Oklahoma City church prior to 8 a.m. Tuesday in order to begin receiving the COVID-19 vaccine as part of an outreach to minorities, who may be distrustful of the vaccination.
“You still have African Americans that are very hesitant about taking this vaccine,” said Rev. Derrick Scobey, senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church where the vaccinations were administered. “We all know that there is certainly a fact in the late 1930s and 40s that there was a Tuskegee, Alabama, Institute that had this syphilis experiment going on,” said Ebenezer Baptist Church Rev. Derrick Scobey.
Nearly 200,000 COVID-19 vaccinations have gone out so far in Oklahoma, but, once again, local officials are pleading with the federal government to ramp up supply and fast.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The fact that the Oklahoma City-County Health Department and the county’s large hospital systems have managed to administer more than 55,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine since Dec. 14 is all the more impressive when considering the challenges faced in obtaining and distributing the vaccine, members of the Oklahoma City-County Board of Health said Thursday.
