OESC to host career fair Monday

By Derrick James STAFF WRITER May 8, 2021 May 8, 2021 The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission said more than 8,000 open job positions across the state will be available during a career fair Monday in McAlester. “Employers have open positions, and Oklahoma has thousands of workers that are required to search weekly for employment opportunities,” said OESC Executive Director Shelley Zumwalt in a press release. “With these career fairs, we hope to bring both employers and claimants together to rebuild our workforce and continue to help our economy recover from the pandemic.” The McAlester career fair will be held Monday, May 10 at the McAlester Expo Center, 4500 West U.S. Highway 270, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission will host several job fairs this month to help Oklahomans re-enter the workforce.More than 8,000 open positions will be available at job fairs hosted by the OESC. Officials said there will be seven in-person fairs happening across the state, including a virtual fair. We re taking the show on the road, and we re really excited to connect employers and our claimants so we can get people back to work, OESC executive director Shelley Zumwalt said.Zumwalt told KOCO 5 that they re hearing from employers every day who need workers. She also said the employers participating in the job fairs will be diverse. We ve got Google in Tulsa. We ve got construction companies. We have anywhere from people with a GED can come and find a career or all the way up through masters degree programs, jobs that qualify in that realm, Zumwalt said.Unemployment numbers are still elevated. Currently, Oklahoma sits at 4.2% and is ranked 13th in the nation.Zumwalt

OESC Hosts 2-Day Career Fair At Tulsa Expo Center The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission is hosting a large job fair at the Tulsa Expo Center on Thursday and Friday featuring 3,600 job openings. According to the OESC, about 20,000 Tulsans are currently in need of a job after the pandemic. The event begins at 9 a.m. and goes through 4 p.m. both days with veterans being granted early access at 8:30 a.m. each day. The OESC said that this event is not only beneficial to people who are looking for jobs, but also for the companies who are in need of workers and looking to quickly hire.

OESC To Begin Statewide In-Person, Virtual Career Fairs The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission is planning to start in-person and virtual career fairs across the state on Wednesday. The virtual option will be available until the end of the month. OESC Executive Director Shelley Zumwalt said this is the right time to help employers connect with Oklahomans needing a job since the economy continues to improve. The virtual fair starts Wednesday and ends on May 28. An in-person fair is set to take place at Expo Square in Tulsa on Thursday and Friday. Two other fairs are expected to take place at the Oklahoma City Convention Center on May 17th and 18th.
