HAZEL PARK The Hazel Park Public Schools Board of Education has voted to phase in a return to face-to-face learning, beginning Feb. 1.
The board also voted to go ahead with the winter sports seasons, as sponsored by the Michigan High School Athletic Association, at Hazel Park High and Hazel Park Junior High.
“We were in session back in November, and our daily rate of (Michigan coronavirus case) numbers are lower now than they were in November. Our plan has been vetted and approved by the Oakland County Health Department, and our governor is encouraging us to be all back in school,” said Hazel Park Superintendent Amy Kruppe.

The department hopes to receive the vaccines in the coming weeks. “We prepared for this turning point in the pandemic in April by purchasing syringes and needles with the hope of someday inoculating residents who are most susceptible to this deadly disease,” said Chief Paul Wells. ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland County Health Division said the demand for the COVID vaccine is far greater than the county’s supply.
The county has scheduled 17,000 appointments for vaccines so far, but can’t continue for the rest of the hundreds of thousands of people who are eligible.
Phase 1B means residents who are 65 and older can make appointments to get the vaccine, along with essential workers.
Oakland County is getting 1,950 doses of the vaccine each week. There are more than 215,000 people in Oakland County who are 65 and older.

The Beats Go On raises over $400,000 for local musicians

ROYAL OAK After COVID-19 decimated the incomes of the gig-based music community, Arts, Beats & Eats formed a fundraising initiative called The Beats Go On that benefited nearly 450 local musicians.
The total amount raised was $431,057.82 of the $500,000 goal, including a $215,528.91 donation from the Oakland County CARES Act, the organizers of the Labor Day festival announced Dec. 10.
Other contributions included $45,983.80 in direct donations, $16,316.60 from drive-in concerts, $37,059 from a crowdfunding page and $116,169.51 from virtual performances, according to a press release.
