Oakley Unified Elementary School Board members are under fire for comments they made about frustrated parents dealing with distance learning and continued school closures.
In Northern California, the Oakley Unified Elementary School District Board prepared for their monthly meeting on Wednesday and didn t realize the meeting was being streamed live online so the public could hear their comments about parents complaining that their students are still at home doing distance learning.
“They thought they were just talking to each other, “ Carl DeMaio stated. “Unfortunately for them, but fortunately for parents and taxpayers, we found out what’s really on their mind and how they feel about those who want their kids back in school,” DeMaio continued.
The accidental “hot mic” moment on Wednesday night laid bare the heightened tensions between elected officials who are under growing pressure to reopen schools amid the coronavirus pandemic, and parents who have now spent nearly a year simultaneously juggling work and child-care duties.
She was caught on video mocking parents who requested that their children return to in-person learning
If you watch the videos, what you’ll see is a board that believes they are alone (and they are, except someone leaked the tape). They begin trashing parents, including one woman making physical threats. Another member of the board demeans parents by claiming they only want babysitters and to go smoke weed all day.
It’s apparently never occurred to these clowns that school is actually important for children. It also apparently never occurred to them they are lazy punks for treating parents this way while they collect taxpayer money to sit on their duffs all day long. No other sector in the world would tolerate this kind of garbage from its employees and leadership. Yet, because the U.S. has such a screwed up relationship with educators, placing them on a pedestal most of them haven’t earned, this kind of behavior is being tolerated and even rewarded in many parts of the count
