Odisha FC president Raj Athwal has explained the reasons behind the Indian Super League side s decision to sack Stuart Baxter.
Baxter (67) sparked outrage on Monday following his side s 1-0 defeat to Jamshedpur when he controversial remarked that one of his players would need to rape someone or get raped himself if he was going to get a penalty .
The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana boss comments were immediately condemned by the club who took the decision to relieve him of his duties the following morning.
Club president Athwal has now explained that Baxter s comments were not in line with the values of Odisha and had left the club with little option but to terminate his contract with immediate effect.
