Open Letter To Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon, Onondaga County Legislature, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh and the Syracuse Common Council:
I feel strongly that $3 million of the more than $200 million in new federal rescue monies recently received by the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County should be designated and dedicated to the resumption and long-term continuation of the Syracuse Jazz Fest.
For the last 31 years, I have been a tour/production manager for many of the music industry’s top national and international touring musical artists. I have toured with Dolly Parton, Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath, Shinedown, Cher and Lady Gaga, to name just a few of the artists. All of that began at Jazz Fest when I was a 17-year

The Onondaga County Legislature is set to vote Tuesday on a funding request to equip sheriff s deputies with body cameras.
County Executive Ryan McMahon is asking for $606K to be spent this year, far less than the $954K proposed by Sheriff Gene Conway. The difference in the spending proposals is due to Conway wanting to put the recording devices not only on deputies, but also jail workers and civil employees in his office.

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Onondaga County Legislature has voted to fund a body camera program for the Sheriff s Office.
The resolution passed along party lines with Republicans voting yes.
Democrats wanted to delay the vote, saying they felt the Republicans were rushing the vote without having a long-term program established.
The request for 606-thousand dollars came from County Executive Ryan McMahon. It came following a dust-up over the initiative last month.
It is less than a nearly 1-million dollar request by Sheriff Gene Conway which would outfit cameras for not only deputies but also jail workers and civil employees in his office.

The cameras could be deployed soon after that, McMahon said at a briefing this afternoon.
Sheriff Eugene Conway is expected to turn in a proposal for body cameras by the end the day, county officials said.
The initial estimates put the cost at $450,000-500,000, McMahon said.
Once Conway’s plan is turned in, McMahon’s office will put a final price tag on the program, said Justin Sayles, McMahon’s spokesman. Legislators will vote Tuesday on the proposal to give the sheriff’s office money, he said.
