New Year’s Day is a federal holiday marking the first day of the calendar year. Jan. 1, 2021 falls on Friday, meaning many businesses and services will be affected.
Many Americans go out to celebrate on New Year’s Eve, but NYE will look very different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Onondaga County is encouraging people to ring in the new year at home with their household due to stress on Syracuse hospitals, and other events, like “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve” in Times Square, will still go on but without crowds.

Christmas Day, December 25, has been a federal holiday in the U.S. since 1870.
