The Oregon Health Authority on Friday reported eight COVID-19 deaths and 844 coronavirus cases, with the state’s case trajectory continuing a slow descent. Oregon is averaging 739 cases a day over the past week, down 12% from the April 27 spring peak. Active hospitalizations among people with COVID-19 also sank for a fourth day in a row, down nearly 8% since peaking earlier this month. Despite those signs of optimism, coronavirus spread “remains a source of concern,” Dr. Dean Sidelinger, the state’s health officer and epidemiologist, said in a recorded video Friday. Oregon’s test positivity rate for the past week remains above 6% – meaning six out of every 100 tests return a positive result – exceeding the state’s goal of 5%.

Oregon reported eight new COVID-19-related deaths Friday, raising the state’s death toll to 2,522. The Oregon Health Authority also reported 844 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total to 189,986. Vaccinations in Oregon OHA reported that 54,747 new doses of COVID-19 vaccinations were added to the state immunization registry. Of this total, 31,750 doses were administered May 6 and 22,987 were administered on previous days but were entered into the vaccine registry May 6. The seven-day running average is now 32,741 doses per day. Oregon has administered a total of 1,744,936 first and second doses of Pfizer, 1,363,623 first and second doses of Moderna and 103,960 single doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines. As of today, 1,385,116 people have completed a COVID-19 vaccine series. There are 1,927,021 who have had at least one dose.
