Licking County sees record number of accidental drug deaths in 2020

Patrick Dakin II held several titles for his family, friends and his community. The 41-year-old Newark man was also Licking County s 24th accidental drug death last year.
Unfortunately, many more were still to come.
In a year largely overshadowed by a deadly pandemic, Licking County suffered a record number of accidental drug deaths in 2020, according to the Licking County Health Department.
Data provided by the Licking County Coroner’s Office shows the agency recorded 47 accidental drug deaths within the county in 2020. The previous year, the agency reported 36 such deaths and in 2018, the agency recorded 42 accidental drug deaths.
