(WFIE) - About 45,000 more people can now get vaccinated in Owensboro. Doctors at Owensboro Health are seeing hospitalizations down when compared to a couple of months ago. They believe vaccinating the elderly population is a contributing factor to these lower numbers. “We feel like we’re picking a group that is high risk and could benefit a lot out of vaccination,” Dr. Michael Kelley with Owensboro Health said.

Owensboro Health Helps Secure Second Bloodmobile Owensboro Health Soon there will be a new state-of-the-art bloodmobile hitting the road. It will help the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center increase the number of possible mobile blood drives across the region. In addition to the donation from Owensboro Health, the purchase was funded by a recent grant from Impact 100, donations from Wal-Mart Giving, the Fraternal Order of Eagles 4168 and an additional $20,000 from raffles held by WKRBC. According to the statement provided from Owensboro Health this morning, Owensboro Health is a signature financial partner in this project - a natural partnership since it will help WKRBC fulfill the blood supply needs for Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and eight other medical facilities in western Kentucky.

Credit Lisa Autry / WKYU Kentucky hospitals say they can’t keep up with demand for the COVID-19 vaccine.  A scarcity of supply has given hospitals thousands more appointments than they can accommodate.  The Medical Center at Bowling Green has received more than 12,000 requests for appointments the hospital hasn’t been able to schedule because it hasn’t received enough vaccine.  I am so, so very pleased with the desire for vaccine coming that s coming from our community, said Dr. Melinda Joyce, Vice President of Corporate Support Services for Med Center Health. It s fabulous we have this many people who want to get vaccinated, and that s what we ve always wanted from the very beginning.

Officers say around 4:20 Sunday evening, they responded to the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for a victim with a stab wound to the chest. Based upon the victim’s statements, officers determined the victim was stabbed during an altercation in a parking lot in the 4700 block of Towne Square Court before being taken to the hospital.
