Health care workers around the nation rolled up their sleeves for the first COVID-19 shots Monday as hope that an all-out vaccination effort could defeat the coronavirus smacked up against the heartbreaking reality of 300,000 U.S. deaths. The medical center immunized about 30 high-risk frontline health care workers Monday morning.
One of them was Dr. Meghana Moodabagil, a resident physician in emergency and internal medicine. Moodabagil knew she d get the first dose of the two-shot vaccine Monday but she didn t know walking into work that she d be one of the very first in Ohio and the nation. This is so cool. This is like history in its making right now. I don t have words, it s just so cool, she said. I want all my colleagues to be able to do what I m doing right now.
Moodabagil was seated at one of several tables set up in rows inside Ohio State s Biomedical Research Tower on 12th Avenue. Around 10:45 a.m., six people were vaccinated all at once following a celebratory countdown of 3-2-1 by health workers.

On December 11, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued the first emergency use authorization (EUA) for a vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19.
The approved vaccine comes from Pfizer Inc. and is intended for individuals 16 years of age and older.
“The FDA’s authorization for emergency use of the first COVID-19 vaccine is a significant milestone in battling this devastating pandemic that has affected so many families in the United States and around the world,” said FDA Commissioner Stephen M. Another set of scientists, this one more than five-dozen deep, is sounding the alarm over Snake River salmon and steelhead, saying if the imperiled fish are to be saved the four lower Snake River dams must go.
On Monday, 68 fisheries researchers from the Pacific Northwest released a letter penned to the regionâs congressional delegation, governors and fisheries policymakers methodically making the case for breaching the dams.
