A former Columbus police officer charged with murder in the fatal shooting of 47-year-old Andre Hill had two or three interactions with Hill in the minutes before the shooting occurred, his attorney said Friday.
Although Adam Coy fired the shots as Hill emerged from the darkened garage of a home, the officer had an initial interaction with Mr. Hill when Mr. Hill was in his car, and some things didn t make sense, defense attorney Mark Collins said.
Collins spoke with reporters after a Franklin County Common Pleas magistrate set bond at $3 million for Coy at his arraignment, where he entered a not-guilty plea.

LIMA A Lima man who randomly broke into a city woman’s residence last summer and stole food, costume jewelry and other assorted items was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison on a second-degree felony count of burglary.
Devon Eccard, 35, apologized to the resident of the home, who was present in the courtroom, and said to her, “Who I was then is not who I am today. My actions were uncalled for.”

The former Columbus, Ohio, police officer who fatally shot Andre Hill, an unarmed Black man, has been charged with murder, prosecutors announced Wednesday night.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted Adam Coy on one count of murder in the commission of a felony and one count of felonious assault, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said. Coy, a 19-year veteran of the city s police force, was also charged with two counts of dereliction of duty for failing to engage his body camera and failing to inform his fellow officer that he believed Hill presented a danger.
