COLUMBUS, Ohio More than 50 people marched on Christmas Eve in below-freezing temperatures to rally in protest over the shooting of 47-year old Andre’ Hill by a Columbus police officer.
This protest was organized by a neighbor in the Cranbrook subdivision of northwest Columbus.
The goal was to bring the community together to show solidarity that this kind of police action is not what citizens want out of their police department.
“I think that s what scares African-Americans in the city, in the state is the react first and not to seek out what is going on and so that is very concerning,” said Daniela Hewins.

COLUMBUS, Ohio Candles have been placed in a northwest Columbus neighborhood in memory of Andre Hill.
Hill, who is Black, was fatally shot by a Columbus police officer on Tuesday on Oberlin Drive.
Mary Counter lives in the neighborhood and is the mother of a Black son.
She said the deadly shooting hits home for her. There is a mom out there similar to me in age. My son is similar in age to that man and it’s an unbearable thought that she had to lose her child for what appears doesn t have any valid reason,” Counter said. “This is a dead human being. He deserves to be remembered. I m very sad to have the loss, but I don t want to forget about him either.

The footage, released by the department Wednesday, also reveals that five and a half minutes passed after Hill s shooting before an officer attempts to administer first aid.
Police identified Adam Coy, a white man and 19-year veteran of the department, as the officer who shot Hill, who is Black.
Coy was placed on paid administrative leave Tuesday. At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Andrew Ginther said he was outraged by the shooting and called for Coy s immediate termination. I am also very disturbed about what I don t see next in the body-worn camera footage, Ginther said. From what we can see, none of the officers initially at the scene provide medical assistance to Mr. Hill. No compression on the wounds to stop the bleeding. No attempts at CPR. Not even a hand on the shoulder and an encouraging word that medic were in route.
