Runners raise over £3,000 for 5in5 challenge 11th May 2021
Over £3,000 was raised for the 5in5 challenge when approximately 50 runners ran in excess of 1,000km over a 24 hour period last weekend.
The event was organised by members of the local running club Carpe Diem and started at 5pm on Friday evening until 5pm on Saturday.
While some runners came and did their part, a minimum of 30minutes running, others took it to what could only be described as the extreme.
Ultramarathoner Lisa Olivera, club member and one of the event organisers, ran 74km in the 24 hours. Running through the night by doing a 10km at 1am or 12km at 6am for example.

BETHANY U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin told Bethany College graduates it will be up to their generation to rise above the divisive discourse found online and stop the political divide in the nation.
Meanwhile, Wheeling native Olivia Archer and Tatum Dyar of Indiana on Saturday were named recipients of Bethany’s Oreon E. Scott Award, which recognizes the students with the highest academic standing in the graduating class.
Manchin, D-West Virginia, served as guest speaker for the 181st commencement exercises at Bethany College.
He told the graduates he was present in the Senate chamber on Jan. 6 when protesters breached the Capitol and attempted to halt the Senate during the official count of electoral college votes.

The 32nd annual Bataan Memorial Death March held virtually this year was completed with boots on the ground April 9 by Jeff Corwon, Frances Anchondo, David Pedersen, Joe Alley, Lance Anderson and Kevin Power.
