On July 13, the Television Academy announced the nominees for the 2021 Emmy Awards, with Indian American Padma Lakshmi earning a nod for her Bravo TV show, âTop Chef,â for the second time.
The New York Times best-selling author and âTop Chefâ host has been nominated for Outstanding Host for a Reality-Competition Program award alongside longtime judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons.
âTop Chefâ also earned nominations for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program, Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program, and Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program.
âTop Chefâ has won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Picture Editing for Reality Programming in 2008 and Outstanding Reality-Competition Program in 2010. It has received 37 Emmy nominations to date.

Last September, Season 18 of Bravo s “Top Chef” (premiering Thursday, 8 EDT/PDT) sharpened its knives and began filming during the pandemic, keeping its original location of Portland, Oregon, and reimagining some of the kitchen standards that make the Emmy-winning competition show sizzle.
This season’s “cheftestants,” as Bravo calls them, include 15 executive chefs and restaurant owners. All involved quarantined ahead of production, including the crew, host Padma Lakshmi, head judge Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons.
Lakshmi s preproduction bubble in Portland included her 11-year-old daughter, Krishna. During Colicchio s own lockdown, “I had my dog with me, so I went outside to walk her. And that was it,” says the judge, who stayed solo in an Airbnb. Both say they were tested every other day during the two-month taping.

Australian streaming service Stan has announced RuPaul s Drag Race Down Under, a spin-off of the Emmy-winning drag queen competition series, will air this year.
An Australian version was supposed to happen in 2020 but, like many productions, it was postponed due to the pandemic.
