GUWAHATI: Assam has put hospital authorities on alert for the maximum segregation of Covid-19 positive cases around the time of Rongali Bihu festival.
This spring festival is the biggest festival of Assam where large groups gather to sing and dance to the beats of Bihu.
In view of such gatherings adding to the positive caseload, the government has issued an SOP limiting Bihu celebrations at night.
The health department has maintained that unless the positive cases are segregated, even small celebrations can become spreaders of the infection.

GUWAHATI: The online classes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic had adverse impact on the students pursuing the MBBS course in six medical colleges in the State.
The first professional examination of MBBS 2021, the results of which were declared on Wednesday evening, has registered only 58.67 pass percentage. Over 40% students could not clear the examination. The examination was conducted by the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences in February this year. Out of 893 who appeared in the examination 524 have passed the test.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) has suspended the student arrested on the charge of molesting a fellow woman student.
The student has been suspended from April 4 as recommended by the institute s Students Disciplinary Committee after prima facie it has been found that he had committed an act that has been considered a serious criminal offence by the judiciary leading to his arrest on April 3, a statement issued by IIT Guwahati said today.
Assam on high alert, partial lockdown on the cards

GUWAHATI: For the first time for the last two months (February & March) the State has recorded more than 60 fresh COVID-19 positive cases in a single day.
Out of 12,322 COVID-19 tests conducted on Friday (April 2) 63 persons tested positive. Even though the COVID positivity rate of the State stands at 0.51%, doctors and health workers have warned that there is absolutely no reason to become complacent as the rise of positive cases is slow but steady. More than 30 people in Guwahati have been infected with COVID-19 in the last three days.
Between March 1 and 31, 2021 the State has been recording 30 to 50 positive cases every day. The similar was the trend in February this year.
