UPDATED 12:05 P.M. | Bloomington-Normal hospital capacity showed some improvement Thursday as McLean County health officials announced 32 new coronavirus cases.
The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) said 84% of hospital beds are in use, down from 92% the last two days. ICU beds are 73% full in Bloomington-Normal. Twenty-one McLean County residents are currently hospitalized with COVID symptoms.

The county’s total of probable and confirmed coronavirus cases stands at 12,829. Currently, 854 McLean County residents are isolating at home and 11,820 people have completed their time in quarantine and are considered recovered.
The county’s COVID death toll remains 134, including 13 deaths reported this week.

McLean County health officials announced four more deaths related to COVID-19 on Wednesday, pushing the county’s death toll since the start of the pandemic to 101.

According to the McLean County Health Department (MCHD), the latest deaths involved a woman in her 80s, a man in his 70s and two men in their 90s. The department said all four were associated with long-term care facilities.
Bloomington-Normal hospitals did see increased capacity as intensive care beds are 69% occupied, down from 92% since Tuesday, while 86% of all beds are in use. Twenty-six McLean County residents are hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms. That’s down from 29 on Tuesday.

UPDATED 12:20 p.m. | McLean County health officials say the rate of new coronavirus cases has dropped in recent weeks, but they are calling for more vigilance as another holiday approaches.
The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) reported 75 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Tuesday, while an additional 227 patients have recovered.

Bloomington-Normal hospitals report greater demand for beds in the last 24 hours; 83% are currently in use, including 88% of intensive care beds. However, the number of McLean County residents in the hospital with COVID-19 fell from 28 to 18 since Monday.

UPDATED 7:45 P.M. | McLean County has set a new record for weekly COVID-related deaths, while health officials report progress in some regional metrics and the arrival of a COVID vaccine that for some health care workers.

The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) announced two more COVID-19 deaths on Friday, a woman in her 60s and a man in his 70s. Both were associated with long-term care facilities. That brings the week s death toll to 16, breaking the previous record of 11 deaths set last week.

The strain on Bloomington-Normal’s hospital capacity eased slightly Wednesday as more intensive care beds became available. But capacity still remains below targets the state of Illinois has set for the coronavirus pandemic.
The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) said Wednesday 81% of intensive care beds and all hospital beds are in use. The county had 92% percent of ICU beds occupied on Tuesday. Twenty-six McLean County residents are hospitalized with COVID-19 down three over the last 24 hours.
