Man was drunk when he drove into lake, killing a passenger, cops say

A 43-year-old New Jersey man was drunk when he crashed a utility terrain vehicle into a lake at a private former mining site, killing another occupant of the UTV, authorities said.
Stephen J. McGuire, of Howell, was charged with vehicular homicide Tuesday after a test showed he had a blood alcohol content of .127 on the night of the Dec. 12 crash at Heritage Minerals Mine in Manchester, according the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. The legal limit is .08.
James Grover, 62, of Howell, was still attached to the UTV a larger version of an all-terrain vehicle that can hold multiple people by his safety harness when divers found it overturned and submerged in 25 feet of water. Grover was pronounced dead at the scene.
Runaway dog reunited with survivor of fatal Christmas Eve crash
A dog that ran away after surviving a hit-and-run crash that killed one of its owners on Christmas Eve has been found.
Sammi, a black Lab mix, has been reunited with Norman Shtab, 83, who lost his 81-year-old wife Phyllis in the crash on Cedar Swamp Road.
Shtab had been turning from the Route 195 off ramp when their Mercedes was struck by a Silverado that police say was driven by Roberto Alcazar-Sanchez. The driver of the other car ran away from the scene and has not been arrested.
Phyllis Shtab died Saturday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center while Norman Shtab was released.

JACKSON – A township man who is still at large has been charged in the fatal Christmas Eve crash that claimed the life of a Howell woman.
Roberto Alcazar-Sanchez, 27, faces two charges: knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license while being involved in a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.
The accident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Cedar Swamp Road near Interstate 195.

The couple s daughter, meanwhile, is hoping to find their dog, which survived the crash but later ran away after it was taken to a relative s home.

Authorities are continuing their search for a man who was charged Wednesday in a fatal hit-and-run that killed an 81-year-old woman.
Roberto Alcazar-Sanchez, 27, of Jackson, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado on Dec. 24 around 6 p.m. when he collided with a 2010 Mercedes Benz in Jackson Township as the other driver was making a left turn from Route 195 onto Cedar Swap Road, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has said. He then fled the scene, authorities said.
Alcazar-Sanchez is charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license while being involved in a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, prosecutors said.
