Addressing the Issue of Mental Health

Addressing the Issue of Mental Health Author: Anxiety. Depression. Stress. Burnout. PTSD. All of these and more encompass mental health considerations because they impact how a person thinks, feels, behaves, makes choices and relates to others. In a candid look at today’s mental health issues, triggered by living one year in an unprecedented pandemic, the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas and the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association are each taking a lead role in helping the boating industry recognize and adopt ways to deal with this often-unsung reality. Anxiety is the most common mental health concern in America today, especially thanks to Covid. Is my livelihood secure? Will my wife still be able to work? Can my kids go to school? Can I visit my aging parents? Should I shop in a crowded grocery store? These and many more concerns easily make us anxious. The Evolving Retail Culture

As I write this, it’s a few hours after that time of day when I needed to make hay the sun was shining, but its rays seemed to be just providing illumination, as my weather app read 22 degrees, with the wind chill knocking it down to 14. Too cold for cycling, and besides, the roads are narrowed by mountains of snow. I bundle up, slip a wool sweater on the dog, and head out.

Author: Feb 25, 2021 When the pandemic hit a year ago, with boat plants shutting down and dealerships closing, anyone who would have predicted the subsequent increase in boat sales would’ve been asked, What are you smokin’? Some might believe it was dumb luck that Covid-19 triggered the CDC’s recommendations to get outdoors and recreate. There’s no question that played a role. But why would people think of boats? What drew so many first-timers to dealerships, draining inventories?
