This comes amidst a series of accusations of miscount and human trafficking directed at the company. Goundar Shipping Limited director George Goundar said it was time to close the business and put their vision of better shipping for Fiji on the shelf. “We would like to thank the people of Fiji for your ten years of support. Picture: ABISHEK CHAND Government has established a maritime technical working committee to monitor safe movement and COVID-19 restrictions. A Government statement read the committee was formed after consultations between the Defence Ministry and Health Ministry. Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport permanent secretary Shaheen Ali said the group was set up in light of the new locally transmitted cases. “The committee’s key mandate is to guide and monitor safe movement and COVID restrictions,” he said. “A number of health and safety protocols were developed and enforced for maritime travel when Fiji recorded its first case in March 2020.

Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) CEO Simon Gravenall clarified this in a statement today saying there would be no inward or outward passenger travel on any inter-island vessels or any vessels. “Only passenger travel for medical purposes will be allowed upon clearance from the Ministry of Health,” Mr Gravenall said. “All vessel operators boarding commercial trucks (with its drivers) on their ships for deliveries to other maritime islands must obtain and document the following information prior to boarding trucks onto vessels:
