Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Are you ready for a tornado? How about a drill that could help prepare you for a tornado?
Minnesotans are being encouraged to consider taking part in Thursday’s statewide tornado drills that are part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
As has been the practice in past years, there will be two mock tornado warnings.
The first will occur at 1:45 pm and is intended for schools, businesses, and other institutions to practice their response to an actual weather emergency. Outdoor warning sirens statewide will be activated and simulated warnings will be broadcast by radio and TV stations.
The weather is warming up and it won t be long before we start getting our first few bouts of severe weather.
As a result, the Benton County Sheriff s Office is reminding the public that they ll be testing out the civil defense sirens on Thursday, April 15.

You ll hear the sirens at 1:45 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m. During this time, you re encouraged to practice a safety plan with your family. You should use this day to formulate your severe weather plan and put together a safety kit for your home.
Schools across Minnesota will be practicing their tornado drill at 1:45 p.m. Several work places are also encouraged to create a plan of their own and practice it today.

Emergency sirens around Minnesota will sound twice on Thursday as part of statewide tornado drills amid Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Outdoor warning sirens will sound in the simulated tornado warning at 1:45 p.m. and at 6:45 p.m. so people can practice taking shelter as if there was real severe weather.
On average, Minnesota experiences on average 28 tornados per year, as well as other severe weather like damaging straight-line winds, hail and lightning.
State officials say understanding Minnesota s severe weather threats and knowing what to do when a tornado or other severe weather approaches can save lives.
Sirens to go off twice Thursday as part of statewide tornado drill

(FOX 9) - Sirens will go off across Minnesota Thursday, once during the day and once in the evening, as part of a statewide tornado drill for Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Outdoor warning sirens will sound in a simulated tornado warning at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. The first drill is intended for institutions and businesses. The evening drill is intended for second shift workers and families.
Last week, the monthly siren test at 1 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month spooked some of the national and international media in town for the Derek Chauvin trial.
