Oli now has 30-day to prove majority again.
KP Sharma Oli, heading a minority government, was sworn in as Nepal’s Prime Minister on Friday, four days after the embattled leader lost a crucial vote of confidence in Parliament.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Oli as the prime minister at a scaled-down ceremony at Shital Niwas, the presidential palace.
The 69-year-old Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal-(Unified Marxist–Leninist) was reappointed as prime minister by the president in his capacity as leader of the largest political party in Nepal’s House of Representatives.
Send Nepal s embattled Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Monday, appealed to the party leaders and cadres to remain united and not to indulge in resignations and other factional activities.
Kathmandu:
Oli issued the statement after the media outlets reported that the rival faction of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified MarxistâLeninist) led by senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal were preparing to resign from the House of Representatives ahead of Oliâs floor test.
Oli, 69, requires at least 136 votes in the 275-member House to win the confidence motion as four members are currently under suspension.
Some of Oli’s decisions contradict atheist left ideology and secular principles. After becoming PM, he has taken a series of steps to woo the Hindu population, projecting himself as a leader of this community.
