A doctor’s union in Japan has urged the government to cancel the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Members of the union went to Japan’s Health Ministry on Thursday to present a written request addressed to Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
“It’s tough for the athletes, but someone has to say that the Games should be canceled. We made the request (to the government) as we think medical workers have to speak up,” Naoto Ueyama, the head of the national doctor’s union, said in a press conference on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, May 14, 2021 (BSS/AFP) – Nepal’s ousted prime minister has been reappointed after the political opposition failed to secure the majority of lawmakers’ support.
KP Sharma Oli, 69, had lost a no-confidence vote on Monday following months of feuding within his ruling Nepal Communist Party and coalition partners.
But after the president called on parties to propose a new candidate by Thursday evening, the opposition Nepali Congress found it was unable to cobble together a majority coalition.
Oli, the leader of the biggest party in parliament, was reinstated.
“Respected President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed KP Sharma Oli… as the prime minister,” a statement from the president’s office said.

Kathmandu, May 14 (UNI) K P Sarma Oli took oath of office on Friday after being reappointed as Prime Minister of Nepal a day earlier, as other parties failed to form a coalition government to take his place.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath to Oli and 24 ministers in his cabinet.
Oli got reappointed as head of a minority government since other parties had failed to garner a majority of support from lawmakers to form a new government by Thursday evening as set by the president.
