Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon and the NDP have released statements about the graves of 215 children found last month near
a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C.
“The Yukon Party official Opposition joins those across the country who are horrified at the discovery of the remains of 215 children on the traditional territory of the Tk emlúpste Secwépemc First Nation near Kamloops,” Dixon said.
“Our hearts go out to the children and families of those whose lives were taken much too soon by actions that are nothing less than deplorable.
“We mourn the victims of the heinous atrocities and actions of abuse committed at residential schools across the country, and stand with the survivors.

The Yukon government is extending the territory's state of emergency for a fifth time since the start of the pandemic and the opposition says it's time to start putting such decisions to a vote in the legislature.
On Monday, the official Opposition party tried futilely to have the length extended to 30 days.
The house reconvened May 11, and it’s currently slated to run for 11 days. Several of those have already been used up on the Throne Speech,
introducing a revised $1.8-billion budget and setting committees.
Seven days are now left in the session, one of which will be devoted to opposition private members’ bills.
Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon has been particularly stuck on the issue. His position has been there isn’t nearly enough time allotted for the debate on the budget.
According to a news release issued Monday by the Yukon Party, “the Liberal-NDP coalition used their combined majority to limit the sitting of the Yukon Legislative Assembly to a mere 11 days. The 11 days was agreed to behind closed doors with no discussion with the Yukon Party official Opposition.
