Delaware drivers felt a price pinch at the pump in the past week week as much of the Eastern seaboard dealt with the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline, Wilmington-based AAA Mid-Atlantic reported.
Delaware drivers ended the week 10 cents higher than one week ago as prices hovered around $3 a gallon.
Membership clubs, Costco, Sam’s, and BJ’s had the lowest prices, with regular selling at $2.74 a gallon as of Monday morning.
Convenience store-gas station chains posted $3 a gallon gas in some locations.
Gas price averages are likely to fluctuate in the coming days, and states where prices have spiked, will see some relief as the pipeline goes back into full operation.

Delaware drivers saw another week of increases at the pump.
South Jersey and Delaware saw increases of four cents in the past week while the national average saw little change.
A year ago, the comparison reflects turbulent times in the oil industry as the pandemic took hold and stay-at-home orders were issued.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), total domestic gasoline stocks increased last week. The increase helped to limit pump price increases as demand dropped. Continued growth in total domestic supply will likely help keep pump prices in check through the weekend amid a reduction in demand.

Delaware drivers were reaching deeper into their wallets as gas prices moved higher this week.
Delaware gas prices increased by seven cents in the last week. While local prices are nearly $1 higher than last year when most of the nation was on lockdown due to the pandemic, prices are within six cents of what drivers were paying in 2019.
Membership clubs continued to have the lowest prices, with the Sam’s Club in Dover offering gas at $2.52 a gallon and $2.54 at Costco and BJ’s clubs near Newark and New Castle.

Pump prices fluctuated around the country during the week as crude oil inventories decreased and gasoline inventories increased, Wilmington-based AAA Mid-Atlantic reported.
Prices dropped slightly, thanks to higher East Coast gasoline supplies.
The least expensive gas can be found in Dover, with one station reporting a $2.50 per gallon price. Costco and BJ’s had the lowest prices in northern Delaware at $2.54 a gallon.

At the close of NYMEX trading Friday, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil settled at $59.32 per barrel, $2.13 lower than last Thursday’s close.

Delaware saw a four-cent decrease as the average prices dropped below $2.70 a gallon.
Dover continued to have the lowest gas prices, with Sam’s Club logging in at $2.51 a gallon, with Costco and BJ’s membership clubs near Newark and New Castle, respectively posting $2.54 a gallon prices.
According to the Energy Information Administration’s latest report, gasoline demand has increased, and along with a decrease in crude oil and gasoline inventories, any decreases could slow or be reversed.
Today’s national gas price average is $2.87, up a penny in the last week, up to eight cents in the last month, and up 90 cents from this time last year.
