A 51-year-old Sault Ste. Marie resident who has had past dealings with police recently for drugs and weapons offenses was arrested at a hospital in Smooth Rock Falls with causing a disturbance and breaching his conditions of release.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning
Members of the James Bay setachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for assistance at 8:42 a.m. that day regarding a “combative patient” at the Smooth Rock Falls Hospital.
Police attended and located the person in the emergency department.

Company ) (NASDAQ: VFF) (TSX: VFF), announced today that it has closed its previously announced registered direct offering with certain institutional investors for the purchase and sale of an aggregate of 10,887,097 common shares at a purchase price of US$12.40 (approximately CA$15.70) per unit for gross proceeds of approximately US$135 million (approximately CA$171 million) before placement agent fees and other offering expenses payable by Village Farms.
The net proceeds from this offering are intended to be used for general working capital purposes.
Upon closing of the offering there were 77,818,908 issued and outstanding common shares of Village Farms.

Federal data shows the COVID-19 pandemic has led to more deaths due to overdose in the first eight months of 2020 than in all of 2019. This has prompted cities such as Vancouver and Toronto to make a request to the Federal Minister of Health Patty Hajdu to issue an exemption from the federal law criminalizing simple drug possession. The exemption would fall under an existing provision in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act that allows for, as an example, safe injection sites to operate.
